The Graduate Certificate in Executive Coaching (GCEC) at William James College is a comprehensive 8-month, 15 credit graduate certificate program accredited for ICF Level 1 by the International Coaching Federation (ICF). William James College offers the only accredited graduate school program in executive coaching in New England. The program is offered in a blended format, which is a combination of online course work and monthly weekends in residence at our college in Newton, MA.

The practical, hands-on experience you’ll gain while you're studying is one of the unique aspects of our graduate certificate. As a student, you’ll participate in a 3.5 month coaching engagement with a real client gaining knowledge and skills to enhance what you’re learning in the classroom, and preparing you for success.

As a GCEC student, you will be in a cohort of professionals from varied disciplines, each with a goal of becoming a highly skilled and culturally competent executive coach. The class remains together, taking courses in sequence and culminating in a Graduate Certificate in Executive Coaching.

What is Executive Coaching?

Executive Coaching is a powerful growth and development tool for building the skills of managers and leaders in organizations. Executive Coaches work with clients to help them leverage their strengths and develop strategies for improved performance and success. The training is grounded in psychology, business, organizational development, coaching theory, principles and practices, and assessment.

Choose Real-World Learning with Experiential Education

At William James College, we believe that field work is a transformational part of your educational experience. As a GCEC student, you will participate in an intensive 3.5 month coaching engagement under the supervision of a Master Coach, who has 10-20 years of coaching experience.  Students are matched up with a real client through a partnership with the Social Innovation Forum. Clients are senior or emerging leaders from the Greater Boston non-profit community. For students, this is a major highlight of the program, both because of the hands-on training they receive and the opportunity to advance the impact of socially responsible leaders.

Choose Community Connectivity, Support and Student Life

The William James College community is supportive and connected. Our Dean of Students Office offers regular programming, in person and online, for all students, and oversees our Academic Resource Center. Student leadership and student groups create more opportunities for engagement, and we are proud to be home to the William James College Black Mental Health Graduate Academy, a community for Black students enrolled in our doctoral and master’s degree programs, that provides mentorship and networking opportunities.

Choose Mentorship and Personal Growth

As a student, you will engage with faculty through education and mentoring.

Our Executive Coaching faculty members, collectively, represent expertise across many domains of psychology including psychology, business, and organizational development.

William James College faculty are practicing professionals who bring their expertise and real-world examples into the classroom.
