PsyD in Clinical Psychology New Student Checklist

Clinical Psychology PsyD Checklist

This checklist was developed to assist entering students with their transition to graduate study. Please read it over carefully, and be sure to complete all the items as noted.

Field Education

Once you have paid your deposit, and you have received your Welcome Packet from the IT Department and successfully set up your William James College email account, you will be sent an instructional email from our Field Education Department to your WJC email account on next steps to begin your site search for your first year practicum. If you haven’t received this email yet, please contact the Department of Field Education (fieldplacement@williamjames.edu). Doing so sooner rather than later assures you the most options and allows you to register for classes sooner.

NOTE: Failure to begin by Memorial Day and actively engage in the site search process until a site is secured may result in a deferral to the following year.

Transfer of Credit

If you have taken graduate-level courses within the last five years that meet all criteria specified in the transfer of credit policy in the student handbook, please submit appropriate syllabi to Eileen O’Donnell (eileen_odonnell@williamjames.edu) by June 20, 2024. (Applicants for advanced standing must submit syllabi by March 15, 2024).

Registration

After you know your field site schedule, please contact Eileen O’Donnell at eileen_odonnell@williamjames.edu and she will register you for classes. It is in your best interest to be in touch with Ms. O’Donnell as soon as possible.

Advanced Standing

Incoming students who meet preliminary qualifications for advanced standing will likely need to complete at least one course during the summer preceding the start of their first fall semester. Applicants should be aware of this and be prepared to complete summer on-campus courses in order to receive final confirmation of their advanced standing status. The summer session runs between early/mid-May through early/mid-July.

Academic Advisor

Advisors are assigned over the summer and you will be notified as soon as your assignment is made. Once you receive notification, please make contact with your advisor prior to the start of the semester and arrange for a meeting no later than the end of the first week of classes.

Ed Tech Orientation

You will receive an email about this online tutorial that introduces the student to the College’s technologies.

You are required to complete this online orientation before attending orientation.

Textbook List

Students should purchase required textbooks from their preferred vendor before the start of classes. Lists of required textbooks may be emailed to you in advance of the semester. Please check with your department coordinator for more information. When available, lists are also posted here
