William James College is a leader in educating the next generation of mental health professionals to support the growing and diverse needs of the mental health workforce. Since 1974, the mission has been clear: to meet society's evolving mental health needs by producing a diverse, culturally responsive workforce, with a focus on serving vulnerable populations.

“Partnerships that position behavioral health and psychology professionals to advance their careers—by linking academic training with real-world applied experience through employers—benefit everyone,” says Associate Director of Recruitment, Employer Partnerships, Carolyn Cross, MS. Partner scholarships and employer support facilitate enrollment in a diverse array of academic programs that support recruitment, retention, and advancement among partner agency staff.

The NEEDS Center’s mission is to provide education, training and support to individuals with developmental disabilities to assist them to live as independently as possible. Their philosophy is rooted in the tenets of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), and Positive Behavior Support (PBS). What motivated your organization to partner with William James College?

At The NEEDS Center, we are deeply committed to creating meaningful opportunities for career growth and professional development for our employees. As an organization that supports individuals with developmental disabilities, including autism, we also recognize the growing need for highly trained Board Certified Behavior Analysts and the nationwide shortage of BCBAs.

Our partnership with William James College allows us to invest directly in our own talented staff by helping them earn a Master’s Degree or Certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis and build a pathway toward becoming BCBAs.

By covering the full cost of tuition, The NEEDS Center is removing a significant financial barrier and creating a tremendous opportunity for employees who are interested in continuing their education, advancing their careers, and making an even greater impact in the lives of the individuals and families we support.

This partnership reflects our belief that when we invest in our employees, we strengthen our organization, improve the quality of services we provide, and help build the next generation of clinical leaders in the field of applied behavior analysis.

What aspects of this partnership are most valuable to your employees?

One of the most valuable aspects of this partnership is that The NEEDS Center is covering the full cost of tuition for employees pursuing a Master’s Degree or Certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis. This creates a significant opportunity for our staff to advance their education and careers without the financial burden that often comes with graduate school.

William James College has also been an outstanding partner in helping us launch the program and support employees throughout the process. Their guidance, responsiveness, and commitment to making the program accessible have been extremely valuable.

The virtual format is another important benefit. As a human services organization with employees working across multiple programs and shifts, including 24/7 residential services, flexibility is essential. The ability to complete coursework online makes it much more realistic for employees to balance work, school, and personal responsibilities while continuing to grow professionally.

How do you see this partnership benefiting your employees and your organization overall?

This partnership benefits our employees by giving them a meaningful opportunity to continue their education, advance their careers, and pursue the path toward becoming Board Certified Behavior Analysts without the financial burden of graduate tuition. For The NEEDS Center, it helps us invest in our own talented staff, strengthen our clinical workforce, and build a sustainable pipeline of future BCBAs and clinical leaders.

Most importantly, this partnership supports our mission. By helping employees grow professionally, we are also enhancing the quality of services we provide to the individuals and families we support.

How might this partnership help strengthen your workforce over time?

This partnership has the potential to strengthen our workforce in a very meaningful and sustainable way. By supporting employees in earning a Master’s Degree or Certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis, The NEEDS Center is helping dedicated staff grow into future BCBAs and clinical leaders while remaining connected to our mission and the individuals we support.

Over time, this creates a stronger internal pipeline of highly trained professionals who already understand our values, our programs, and the needs of the people we serve. It also demonstrates to our employees that we are committed to investing in them, not only as staff members, but as professionals with long-term career potential.

Ultimately, this partnership helps us improve retention, expand clinical expertise, and continue building a workforce that is skilled, mission-driven, and prepared to provide high-quality support to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
