Study: Military with mental issues discharged for misconduct
“The issue is making a determination of what is service-connected and whether that [mental] disorder has contributed to the less than honorable discharge. In addition, some pre-military behavioral, psychological and substance abuse disorders can be exacerbated by a soldier’s experience in the military.” Associate Professor Gerald Sweet provides insight on a recent study that found many military personnel with PTSD and Traumatic Brain Injury diagnoses are given less than honorable discharges.
