When Mayor Marty Walsh announced his alcohol addiction at the Democratic National Convention, he opened the conversation surrounding the stigma associated with addiction, giving a voice to the 25 million people who comprise the recovery community in the United States. This public criticism can be extremely damaging and can hinder addicts’ recovery.
