Boston 25 News Anchor, Mark Ockerbloom Interviewing Dr. Jenny D'Olympia

‘A stranger in a strange land’: Local college helping veterans adjust back to civilian life

A team from William James College's Military and Veterans Psychology (MVP) and Train Vets to Treat Vets (TVTV) programs recently joined Boston 25 News anchor Mark Ockerbloom. The participants included Dr. Jenny D’Olympia, program director of MVP and TVTV; Clinical Psychology PsyD student Jose De Ramon; and WJC alumna Dr. Jessica Price.

The Military and Veterans Psychology and Train Vets to Treat Vets programs at William James College support Veterans both as students training in psychology and as future mental health providers for other veterans. Led by Dr. Jenny D’Olympia, herself a veteran, the program aims to bridge the gap between Veterans and mental health services, addressing issues like PTSD, depression, and anxiety. Participants like Jose De Roman, a former Navy serviceman, and Jessica Price, a program alumna, believe that their shared experiences enable them to build trust and understanding with Veteran patients, breaking down stigmas around seeking help. With veteran suicide rates alarmingly high, the program’s mission to provide accessible, Veteran-led mental health support is critical.

Watch now to see how William James College is both encouraging Veterans to pursue careers in psychology and addressing their mental health needs.
