Rose Andrades is a first-generation student who received her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with an additional major in psychology at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Rose is a recent graduate of William James College’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling program with a concentration in Forensic Psychology. In this program, Rose was a Leaders in Diversity and Resilience (LDR) Fellow.

As a Clinical Psychology student at WJC, Rose is the first in her family to pursue a doctoral degree which is her most proud accomplishment. Her prior clinical experiences include a field placement at Family Continuity in Lawrence, Massachusetts where she provided therapeutic mentoring services, supervised DCF visits, and developed care plans for individuals with persistent behavioral health difficulties. Rose also interned for Wellpath at MCI: Concord where she provided individual and group psychotherapy to males who were incarcerated.

Rose was born in Puerto Rico and left the island at the age of nine. While living in Puerto Rico, she resided in the largest public housing complex on the island. As an individual from a low-income family, she learned the value of resilience and building community. As a Latina, Rose is passionate about providing mental health services to those who are underserved. Her research interests include evaluating and assessing the reliability and biases of forensic assessments as well as the perception of criminal responsibility based on gender, racial, and ethnic differences.

Rose feels proud to be a recipient of the Serving the Underserved Scholarship. As a first-generation Latina student, she understands the importance of providing access to mental health services to underserved populations. As a CMGMH Scholarship Fellow, Rose looks forward to engaging in service-learning opportunities to strengthen her clinical skills and provide services to those who have come in contact with the criminal justice system. In the short-term, she aims to obtain a training opportunity that focuses on diagnostic and risk assessment within a correctional setting. Rose’s long-term goal career goal is to become a Forensic Psychologist.

Rose’s favorite hobbies include cycling, traveling, and trying new restaurants.
