Qualitative Methods II
ORG LP735 - Qualitative Methods II
Credits: 4
In this course we will build upon the knowledge and skills gained in Qualitative Methods I to further our understanding of qualitative research methods as it applies to the field of leadership. Taking leadership as our domain, we will explore in more depth the data collection tools of observation and interviewing as well as diverse qualitative research methodologies: content analysis, case studies, grounded theory, narrative analysis, and ethnography. We will discuss the role of the fieldworker in collecting, analyzing, and writing up qualitative data: (1) ethical considerations, (2) the way in which the “Other” is represented, and (3) the emotionality/messiness of qualitative research. We will also discuss the ways in which qualitative research from a critical and reflective position takes place amidst relationships of power.
