This course introduces students to the concepts of autism and neurodivergence, exploring the cognitive, social, and emotional experiences of neurodivergent individuals. Students will examine the history of autism research, neurodiversity as a social movement, and current perspectives on education, employment, and accessibility. Through interactive discussions, case studies, and media analysis, students will gain an understanding of how society perceives and accommodates neurodivergence. The course emphasizes the voices and lived experiences of neurodivergent individuals while fostering critical thinking about inclusion, advocacy, and misconceptions surrounding autism and related neurotypes.
