Credits: 3
Community Health Workers (CHW's) play a key role in ensuring the health and well-being of multi-cultural residents in a variety of community-based settings such as homes, schools, clinics, shelters, local businesses, and community centers. This course is the first in a two-course series, designed to align with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health's recommended ten core competencies to prepare students for entry-level positions in community health. This course introduces the history of the community health worker field, issues of health equality, health policy in the United States, issues related to cultural humility, the CHS Code of Ethics and Guiding Principles, the importance of stress-management and self-care, and the basic skills involved in providing direct services.
