This course provides students with a foundational knowledge of the criminal justice system, and how it intersects with individuals in a behavioral health crisis. The course will begin with an overview of Procedural Justice models and their application in the field. Students will explore the Sequential Intercept Map™ and apply it to their communities. The course provides a foundation for analyzing innovative criminal justice diversion models alongside opportunities to network with professionals who work in them. Models of Community Policing and Police Reform efforts will be explored through a data-driven lens. Students will be exposed to scenario-based pedagogy and experiential learning opportunities. Students will also learn how gender, race, class, and other demographics impact an individual's involvement with the criminal justice system.
