Family and Systems Theory
CLI FX515 - Family and Systems Theory
Credits: 2
Through lectures, class discussions, videotapes and group exercises, this class will introduce the history of family therapy, several major theoretical and research models of family therapy, and will place families in relation to social context. We will also explore and become more aware of the clinician’s reflective use of self, and of the role of one's family of origin and social context in the therapy practice. Students will have the opportunity to explore their own families and a client family, in social context, as a means for gaining a better understanding and appreciation of their therapy work, and to explore a topic of their choice in the family literature. Cross listed as SCH FX515. Pre-requisite: CLI PS600 or SCH ST631.
