This course is designed to provide students with an intensive exposure to the cultures of Trinidad and Tobago via the provision of psychoeducational assessment services to children, in collaboration with their families, teachers, and schools. The course focuses on teaching students how to effectively and appropriately utilize psychological tests developed in the United States (US) in a non US setting by increasing students’ sensitivity to diversity and difference, promoting learning and sharing of cross-cultural experiences, enhancing competence in building effective relationships with culturally diverse populations, and increasing awareness of ethics and standards appropriate to professional practice with ethnically diverse populations. An important goal is that of expanding the global perspectives of students in the field of mental health.
