Student Ambassador: Grace LaCamera

My name is Grace LaCamera, and I am enrolled in the School Psychology MA/CAGS program at William James College. I graduated from Fairfield University in 2021 with a BS in Psychology with a concentration in Behavioral Neuroscience and a minor in Health Studies. I currently live in Mansfield, MA, where I have lived my whole life.

I chose William James College due to the sense of connectedness and community I felt throughout the entire application process. All of the professors and students were so welcoming and helpful. I felt that my application process was personable, which made my experience so memorable and gave all the more motivation for me to ultimately choose WJC. Additionally, something unique about the program is the opportunity to get experience in the field right at the beginning of the program. It has been a great asset to take what I learn in the classroom and apply it to what I learn at my site. I feel more prepared as a future school psychologist knowing I have been able to learn along the way. Some interests that I have in the school psychology field are trauma in schools, social-emotional learning, and crisis intervention and prevention practices.

WJC provides many opportunities for students to be involved and take part in various leadership opportunities within the program. I have volunteered to participate in Interview Day, and I also facilitated a book discussion for NASP’s 2022 National Book Read.

To have a successful first year experience, I recommend asking as many questions as you can. This is your time to learn, so take advantage of seeking out wisdom from your professors and supervisors! You will learn so much from professionals in the field who only want you to succeed.
