Hi there! My name is Corey Wharton, and I’m from Braintree, MA which is about 20 minutes south of Boston. I previously attended UMass Boston where I earned my Bachelor’s in Psychology in 2019. I chose the School Psychology MA/CAGS program at William James College because of the kind, welcoming, and close-knit community. After attending a large undergraduate university, I knew how important it was to find a school with a small student-staff ratio.
What struck me most was the layout of the program, specifically the field experience starting in the first year. I believe it is so important to jump right into the field as soon as possible to grow into the role of the School Psychologist. The three years gradually increase in field site and decrease the number of academic courses, which sets you up for success and eases the transition into your career as a School Psychologist.
If you are starting this program at WJC, my advice would be to enjoy and take it day by day. This is a time to truly soak in all of the experience that you will be receiving. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes because mistakes are what help you grow! Take advantage of the support from faculty as well as your soon-to-be cohort. Please feel free to contact me with any questions!
